Ruddington is a large village some five miles south of Nottingham. Ruddington and District Choral Society was formed in 1962 as an Evening Class, and has grown and developed since that time to a group of some eighty members who live in the Nottingham area. We meet on Monday evenings in school terms (directions), generally from September to May.
We participate in a small number of concerts each year. When possible, we sing with orchestral accompaniment, at other concerts we sing with organ, piano or with a small group of instrumentalists. We generally give one concert a year in support of local charities.
In recent years, concerts have included performances of Handel's Judas Maccabaeus, Duruflé's Requiem, Schubert's Mass in G, and Haydn's Creation, as well as works by Bach, Vaughan Williams, Chilcott, Rutter and Fauré. A Mozart anniversary concert was given in 2006 including the Te Deum, Ave Verum Corpus and Missa Brevis in F Major.
Since then, we have sung Monteverdi's Beatus Vir and a number of works by Purcell, of which his King Arthur was accompanied by a string group, Rossini's Petite Messe Sollennelle, with Tom Corfield (harmonium) and David Woodhouse (piano), and in summer 2008, Pergolesi's Magnificat and Haydn's Nelson Mass accompanied by the English Pro-Musica Orchestra. Why not join us?
Our Musical Director is David Woodhouse, and our Accompanist is Andrew Rootham.
The Society is registered as a charity, number 1039384
