Ruddington is a large village some five miles south of Nottingham. Ruddington and District Choral Society was formed in 1962 as an Evening Class, and has grown and developed since that time to a group of some eighty members who live in the Nottingham area. We meet on Monday evenings in school terms (directions), generally from September to May.
We participate in a small number of concerts each year, accompanied usually by organ or by a small group of instrumentalists. We generally give a charity concert at Christmas time, performing a Community Messiah (with audience participation) or a carol concert in alternating years, the latter alongside a local band.
In recent years, concerts have included performances of Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle, Pergolesi's Magnificat, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Harmonie Mass, Handel's Dettingen Te Deum, Dvorák's Mass in D and Vivaldi's Gloria. We have also sung folk song arrangements by Rutter and Vaughan Williams, and a number of English Part Songs. In May 2011 we performed Mendelssohn's Elijah in St Giles' Church, West Bridgford.
In 2012 we celebrate our 50th year and will sing the full Messiah in concert.
Our Musical Director is David Woodhouse, and our Accompanist is Andrew Rootham.
The Society is registered as a charity, number 1039384
