Ruddington is a large village some five miles south of Nottingham. Ruddington and District Choral Society was formed in 1962 as an Evening Class, and has grown and developed since that time to a group of some eighty members who live in the Nottingham area. We meet on Monday evenings in school terms, generally from September to May.
As a rule, we participate in a small number of concerts each year. Some of these we organise and fund ourselves, some receive sponsorship. When possible, we sing with orchestral accompaniment, at other concerts we sing with organ, piano or with a small group of instrumentalists. We try to maintain the practice of giving occasional concerts in support of local charities.
Works which we have sung in recent years include the following: Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation, Elgar's The Music Makers, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Finzi's Intimations of Immortality. In March 1998 we sang in a concert of Eighteenth century music including the Handel anthem The King Shall Rejoice, and an unpublished work, Thomas Linley's music for Sheridan's The Tempest. In 1999 we sang Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with the Orchestra of St John's Smith Square. Why not join us?Our Musical Director is David Woodhouse, and our Accompanist is Andrew Rootham.
The Society is registered as a charity, number 1039384
