Andrew Rootham was born in Peterborough and moved to Nottingham at the age of 11. He attended West Bridgford School where he was actively involved in the music department, playing the piano and keyboard for a number of musical productions including Guys and Dolls and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera.
Andrew studied music at Clarendon College in Nottingham and later at Colchester Institute where he gained his music degree, obtaining a distinction in further keyboard skills. Andrew accompanied regularly for singing competitions and music festivals including a masterclass given by international soprano Rae Woodland. While at Colchester he was appointed organist and choirmaster of Wivenhoe parish church as well as accompanist for Witham choral society in Essex.
Since returning to Nottingham in 1989, Andrew has built up a thriving piano teaching practice as well as directing performances for junior drama groups such as Nottingham Youth Operatic Society and a performance of Annie by The Albion Music and Drama Group. He spent 10 years as Director of Music at St. Wilfrid's Church in Wilford village before taking up his current post as Director of music at St. Giles' Church in West Bridgford.
Andrew's first association with Ruddington & District Choral society was in the early 1990's where he was asked to accompany rehearsals in preparation for a charity performance of Handel's Messiah under the direction of Audrey Williams. He has since been a singing member of the society before taking up his post of accompanist in January 2008.
